Obama Infomercial

Published by marcand at 8:17 pm under Breaking News, Politics Edit This

Well, presidential candidate Barack Obama made history tonight, regardless of whether or not he becomes the first African-American to win the presidential election.  The Obama campaign produced a 27 minute infomercial, allowing three minutes at the end for Obama to make a live appearance.  Then, they contracted with no less than six major networks: CBS, NBC, Univision, BET, MSNBC, as well as TV One.  While the numbers are not in yet, I am predicting here and now that this will set a record for number of viewers of (a) any infomercial and (b) political campaign show of any sort.  In fact, with these six networks lined out, it may be the most watched “show” this year.  The only hold out was ABC, who apparently had a scheduling conflict and was unable to carry the broadcast.  The timeslots were paid for by the Obama campaign.  So, in case you missed it, here is the 27 minute Obama infomercial.  If I can get the live remarks or a video of them I will update this post accordingly so you won’t even miss that!

“As president I will do…… ” THIS is what we’ve been waiting to hear from the candidates.

CNN also held out, they’ve already heard from me about THAT decision! :)

I agree that we’ve been waiting to hear anything of real substance. However, as with all politicians, words are cheap and actions speak louder. After all, speech writers apparently are a dime a dozen ;-).

23.6 million homes tuned into the Obamamercial. ABC came to the table too late to have a spot on the bus, so it was less a scheduling conflict and more a timing thing.

I think the goal overall was to give the “undecideds” and “afeared ‘Merikans” a chance to get comfy with the Barack Obama as their next POTUS.
